This is Video of the Week from Wales Arts Review. We’ll be showcasing some of the best art in Wales with a new video shared every week. From music to drama and everything in between, videos will not be limited by medium. Today’s video is a behind the scenes preview of the making of ‘Signs of the Times’, photographer Martin Parr’s latest exhibition at Ffoto Newport.
This week’s Video of the Week offers a brief behind the scenes look at a engaging exhibition currently running at Ffoto in Newport. ‘Signs of the Times’ features work by photographer Martin Parr and opened at the end of 2022 to mark Ffoto’s one year anniversary.
The project is based on the BBC television series of the same name, ‘Signs of the Times’ is a vintage – and hilarious – look at personal early 90s taste in the British home, exploring the extraordinary range of emotions that lie behind our household decor. The video offers a glimpse of the exhibition, alongside footage of the exhibition’s opening night and Parr signing copies of the book which accompanies the collection (available through the Martin Parr Foundation).
Ffoto Newport is an independent, self-funded photography gallery based within a recently refurbished Victorian arcade in Newport city centre, showcasing a wide variety of work.
‘Signs of the Times’ is currently showing at Ffoto Newport and runs until 31st January. Information is available here.
