Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard are a Cardiff-based indie band with a ‘70s sensibility. The band consists of front man Tom Rees who provides vocals and guitar, his brother and bassist Ed Rees, guitarist Zac White and drummer Ethan Hurst. After releasing multiple singles, the four-man band have carefully crafted their first album, which started as a bedroom studio project for Tom Rees in late 2016. The album is entitled Backhand Deals and was released in late February.
‘Good Day’ is the second song featured on the album and comes with an accompanying music video, directed by Will Clark. Alisdair Grice writes that “Tom levels up from enthralling vocalist to play narrator, lending his thoughts about the wiles and woe of modern life, like the critical “Conformity’s the function of celebrity” in ’Good Day’. His lyrics are sharp and biting.’
The band is are already receiving praise for a fun, energetic sound and making waves on the Welsh music scene and beyond. Writing for Riot, Ellie Howorth praises the album, saying: “From the fast-paced buoyancy of ‘Good Day’, to the jokingly aspirational anthem ‘Faking A Living’, each track is touched by polished production and well-crafted melodies, with sailing harmonies that even the Beatles would be proud of.”
James Auton writes that “‘Good Day’ is a bit of a summer stroll, bouncy keys, musically it is a bit Randy Newman but with harmonies drenching everything”.
